The cityscapes in the Alphaville series are imaginary. The rough topography in each case may be true, but only a few of the places and buildings depicted exist in the real world. Except for a few, most of the city-identifying buildings are just as fictitious as the spacious parks and stretches of water. The title Alphaville was inspired by the 1965 film of the same name directed by Jean-Luc Godard, in which simple filmic means were used to create the vision of a city state that – despite being basically familiar - appears distant and strange.

Die Stadtansichten der Alphaville Serie sind unrichtig dargestellt. Zwar stimmt jeweils die grobe Topografie, aber nur einige der abgebildeten Orte und Gebäude existieren in der Realität. Bis auf ein paar prägnante und die konkrete Stadt identifizierende Bauwerke sind viele ebenso fiktiv, wie die oftmals großzügigen Park- und Gewässerflächen. Der Titel 'Alphaville' bezieht sich auf den gleichnamigen Film Jean-Luc Godards von 1965, in dem mit schlichten filmischen Mitteln das Bild eines Stadt-Staatsgefüge entworfen wird, das - obwohl im Grunde vertraut -  merkwürdig fremdartig anmutet.
